Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who can become a member of SBPA?
Any firm or branch of a firm engaged in publishing or allied industries may apply. Membership categories are available for both publishers (Ordinary Members) and related businesses (Associate Members).
2. What is the difference between Ordinary and Associate Membership?
Ordinary Members: Companies whose main activity is publishing or acting as a sole agent/representative of a publisher. They have full voting rights and may stand for election.
Associate Members: Companies involved in publishing-related services but not qualifying as Ordinary Members. They may attend General Meetings but cannot vote or stand for election.
3. How long is the membership valid?
All memberships are valid for 12 months and are renewable annually.
4. What are the membership fees?
Ordinary Member Category A – S$500 (turnover < SGD 1 million)
Ordinary Member Category B – S$1,000 (turnover > SGD 1 million)
Associate Member Category A – S$500 (turnover < SGD 1 million)
Associate Member Category B – S$1,000 (turnover > SGD 1 million)
Honorary Members – By invitation only
5. How do I apply for membership?
Simply complete our online Membership Application Form via Google Forms and upload the required supporting documents (e.g. company profile, recent publications if applicable).
6. How long does the application process take?
Applications are usually processed within 2–4 weeks, depending on the completeness of the documents submitted.
7. Can overseas publishers join?
Yes. Overseas publishers who appoint a local representative office in Singapore may apply under the relevant membership category.
8. Can I change my membership category later?
Yes, members may request to upgrade or change their category upon renewal, depending on updated turnover or business activity.
9. What benefits do members receive?
Members enjoy access to networking opportunities, training programmes, government support schemes, international trade fairs, and industry recognition through events such as the Singapore Book Awards.
